Rebirth

The piece was named Rebirth and it was a mix of digital drawing and 3D mediums such as faux flowers, pipe cleaners, floral tape, and live moss. The antlers were made by hand out of the pipe cleaners and the floral tape.

This piece was for my Art 2500 (Digital Imaging) class as a final project. Because I worked so much with digital drawings, I added 3D materials to juxtapose the 2D aspect of the work as well as build my work experience with 3D objects.

At first, I didn’t have a solid concept for Rebirth, but the more I worked with the piece, the concept became stronger and eventually solid. Rebirth is a piece that shows that people can come back or recover from their mental illnesses. We are constantly growing as people and sometimes, we do hit the worst points in our life and then it seems like an endless, black abyss, however, I do believe in us being “reborn” as a new person as we heal from our wounds. I chose to cover the girl’s face with flowers and it make it the centerpiece because they must grow through dirt as we must as well. The antlers and moss are there to also add more of an organic feel. Each flower could also represent someone different because all flowers grow and recover at different rates just like humans do.
